PETER BROOKS gallery | exhibitions | current projects Through my work, I intend to redefine commonly accepted notions of the value of everyday objects. By working with found materials, I address the fact that discarded objects are in fact contemporary relics that chronicle the human experience. They speak without bias to the inevitability of deterioration and aging and, therein, they metaphorically allude to human mortality and the need for a sense of humanity. These themes subtly fuel all of my work on a material level. Therefore, after establishing these thematic underpinnings, I can investigate specific ideas that interest me such as the origins of language, physical and emotional human interactions, and the commodified identity of art objects in today's art world. | |
